In Pinet, Herault you can find a brief of the Via Domitia which use to be the Roman "Freeway" who ran all over Southern France. A wonderfully connected network of "Via" permitted to the Romans to travel all over Europe back to Rome. Today, most of Europe's main highways are following these "Via".
